The ash fusion fluidized-bed powder coal gasification technology developed by the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry was successfully applied in the alumina project of Yunnan Wenshan Aluminum Industry. http://www.bjb.cas.cn/images/nr_r_line_nr.jpg On September 26, the completion ceremony for Yunnan Wenshan Aluminum Industry’s 800kt/a alumina project was held on site at the company; Wang Jianguo, director of the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, and Hou Xianglin, head of the Science and Technology Development Department, were invited to attend. The project utilizes the patented gray fusion fluidized bed coal gasification technology independently developed by the Shanxi Coal Chemistry Research Institute to produce fuel gas for the roasting of aluminum ore. A total of 3 gray fusion fluidized bed gasifiers were installed, with a design pressure of 0.4 MPa. Each gasifier is capable of processing 440 tons of coal per day, generating 32,500 Nm3 of gas per hour; the calorific value of this gas is 5,858 kJ/Nm3. Its process advantages are as follows: (1) The combination of pressurized gasification and energy recovery from pressurized gas not only increases the production capacity per furnace but also enhances the efficiency of gas purification as well as the gas transportation capacity ; (2) Using local lignite from Yunnan as raw material reduced the cost of raw materials ; (3) It is environmentally friendly in production, with simple wastewater treatment; the ammonia-containing wastewater generated during the process is used for desulfurization and denitrification of the flue gas from the boilers in the utility system. This represents the first application of the ash fusion fluidized bed gasification technology in the non-ferrous metallurgy industry, following its successful use in 2001 in a demonstration project for ammonia production at a fertilizer plant in Shaanxi, and its successful application in 2009 in the industrial production of synthetic methanol at the Tianxi coal-to-oil plant of Jinmei Group. The widespread adoption of this technology will be of great significance for advancing innovation in gas production technologies within China’s metallurgy industry. = Related information: Introduction to gray pyrolysis – Shanxi Province Powder Coal Gasification Research Center http://wenku.baidu.com/view/d2fd7adbd15abe23482f4d85.html

It is reported that Yunnan Wenshan Aluminum Industry Co., Ltd. has achieved simultaneous operation of two ash pyrolysis furnaces; the operating pressure, daily coal processing capacity per furnace, gas production volume, calorific value of the gas, and residual carbon content in the slag have all reached or exceeded the design values.
