Newly purchased dimethyl silicone oil, with a viscosity of 1000. It was placed in an oil bath to be heated; smoke kept coming out of it. At first, I thought it was due to the old oil already present, but then the temperature gradually increased. After reaching 150 degrees, after an hour, I noticed that the level of the oil in the oil bath had dropped significantly, and its viscosity had also increased greatly. Have you all ever seen such a situation?
What color is the smoke? Is it because the silicone oil isn’t pure?

Silicone oil has a parameter related to volatile components, and these volatile components are the unreacted epoxy silanes. However, it does not emit smoke at 150 degrees; smoking should occur only if low-boiling-point solvents such as toluene are present.
