Is the safety valve at the metering pump outlet releasing pressure to the inlet?

The medium being transported is process water, and the pressure from the safety valve at the pump outlet is released directly to the pump inlet. Will this have an impact on the pump? What kind of impact might it cause? Wouldn’t it be better to release that pressure into the atmosphere?
There will be no impact; our high-pressure injection pumps are designed this way and have been in use for many years
