Function of the methanol tank on the bottom temperature pump

I’ve never worked with cryopumps before; some of them have methane tanks. Could someone explain this to me?
There is a tank on the bottom reflux pump of the demethanization tower in the plant; it seems to be used for storing methane. I would like to know what function this tank serves
Low-temperature pumps, some of which are equipped with methane tanks and others with methanol tanks, serve to absorb the heat transferred by the pump shaft, thereby preventing the shaft seal from losing its sealing function at low temperatures and causing leaks.
