I saw a container drawing with a design temperature of -100°C, using S30408 material; reinforcement rings were added to the connections. Personally, I think reinforcing rings should not be added, but I can’t find any evidence for this. I would appreciate it if the experts could advise whether reinforcement rings can be added. If not, what is the basis for that?
There is no such restriction in the usage conditions for the reinforcement ring, so it can be used. It is stated in a book that for reinforcement, integral reinforcement or thick-walled tube reinforcement should be used as much as possible; if reinforcement plates are employed, they should have a fully welded-through cross-section, with smooth weld transitions.
When austenitic stainless steel is designed for temperatures of not lower than -196 degrees Celsius, there are not as many restrictions.

In your opinion, is it because the reinforcement calculation through opening reinforcement indicates that no reinforcement ring is needed? Sometimes, the reason why some drawings require reinforcement rings is not necessarily insufficient opening strength; it could be due to excessive inward projection or a relatively long length of protrusion.
What I mean here is without reinforcement rings; what I want to know is whether reinforcement rings can be used in such a low-temperature environment, rather than a calculation issue. Also, I would like to ask: if it extends inward, why is it necessary to add a reinforcement ring? Thank you.
