A new safety valve has been purchased for the ammonia storage tank. The flange at the discharge port differs from that of the original pipeline; the bolt holes do not align, as it seems that the flange on the outlet side of the new safety valve is one size larger than those on the piping. Are there any good methods for dealing with this without using fire?
Generally speaking, the outlet pipe of a safety valve is equipped with pipe splices; it’s sufficient to remove them and weld new ones in their place. If removal isn’t possible, then it depends on the design of your process. If the requirements for the outlet pipe aren’t very strict, the bolt holes in the pipe flanges can be enlarged through machining
Mainly, check the flange sealing surface; if they fit well, follow what was mentioned above. If they don’t fit, add a short section in between – one end connected to the new safety valve and the other end connected to the pipeline – and this can be processed properly at the bottom.
Since it’s an ammonia storage tank, try to avoid performing any welding work in its vicinity whenever possible. The drain pipes and ammonia release pipes were blocked, resulting in a failure; ultimately, the safety valves had to be removed so that welding and expansion work could be carried out……
