Does Shandong Jiutai have any methanol or dimethyl ether projects under construction in Inner Mongolia?

I heard it’s in Ordos, and construction has already started; the first phase will involve 500,000 tons of methanol and 100,000 tons of dimethyl ether.

The construction of the pile foundations and underground pipeline networks is funded by the park management committee. Can it be said that Jiu Tai’s dimethyl ether project has not started at all?

On April 24, the 1 million-ton dimethyl ether project (Phase I) of Jutai Energy commenced construction in Yijinholuo Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The 1 million-ton dimethyl ether project built by Jutai Energy is planned to require an investment of 6 billion yuan; once completed, it will have the capacity to produce 1.5 million tons of methanol and 1 million tons of dimethyl ether per year. The total investment for the first phase is 2.7 billion yuan. It is understood that Jutai Energy’s dimethyl ether project in Ordos is another major coal conversion project following Shenhua’s coal-to-oil project. The commencement of this project will greatly promote the deep processing and on-site conversion of coal in that city, help extend the industrial chain, and improve the level of comprehensive resource utilization; it will also play a positive role in elevating the overall standard of the coal chemical industry.

When I went there some time ago, it was said to be under construction, but it was mentioned that it had been moved from another location!

With Jiu Tai’s ambitious plans, money is the bottleneck

Jiutai launched a new tender in November for a methanol production project with an annual capacity of 1.8 million tons. The new project is located in Linyi, Shandong Province, and its total investment amounts to around 7.5 billion RMB, funds to be raised through internal resources as well as overseas sources (it is said). The Shandong Provincial government is responsible for obtaining approval for the project (the feasibility study report will be submitted at the end of the year under the banner of a circular economy pilot project), while Linyi City is responsible for providing water, electricity, railway connections, as well as ensuring channels for selling DME. It is said that if the project is not approved, everything will be moved to Ordos in Inner Mongolia.

Jiutai Energy is quite strong! It has a large capacity for production, aiming to become the largest dimethyl ether manufacturer in both domestic and international markets. The coal chemical industry base in Inner Mongolia seems to be located together with 3D, between Hohhot and Xuejiawan, about 1-2 hours’ drive from Hohhot.:) :)

I recently visited the project site in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia, operated by Jiu Tai in the Dalu Chemical Industry Park in Zhungeer Banner – a facility designed to produce 1 million tons of methanol and 100,000 tons of dimethyl ether per year. I met the person in charge of the project as well as Mr. Guo, who is in charge of human resources. The foundation for this project is set to be completed by the end of the year; the project leader said that installation will begin next spring. At present, there are three major projects under way on this road: Yitai’s coal-to-oil project, SDY’s 200,000-ton methanol project, and Jutai’s 600,000-ton methanol project. None of them have made much progress; the advancement is slow. Especially with SDY, it faces financial difficulties. Coal chemical processing is not something that ordinary companies can handle – it’s easy to think about but difficult to implement

Work has already started; it’s right in Xuejiawan

The Dalu Development Zone is under construction; it should be able to start operating by the end of next year. However, it will mainly produce methanol, with dimethyl ether serving more as a pretext. Even if it does start operating, there won’t be any significant advantages. I heard that coal supply has not yet been secured, so without a cheap source of raw materials, the efficient production process cannot be achieved.

Where do you get your information from? Hearing the wind means it’s going to rain. The 1.8 million-ton methanol project in Linyi is still only in the planning stage. I wonder, how much coal is needed for 1.8 million tons – and where will that coal come from?
