Our factory uses many sulfuric acid heat exchangers; after operating for a while, the flow rate through these heat exchangers decreases due to an excessive amount of acid sludge inside them. How can this sludge be removed effectively? What cleaning agents should be used without causing corrosion to the heat exchangers? Thank you!!! # hcbbs

Just loosen the bolts, rinse with water, and dry with a cloth; be sure to take protective measures
We took it apart to clean it, and we washed it many times as well. I’m not sure what type of heat exchanger your facility uses; be careful when cleaning it, as the heat exchange fins can be very harmful to your hands.

As a supplementary point, chemical cleaning is not very effective for plate heat exchangers; it’s better to disassemble them and clean them manually

Water can be used, and there are also specialized chemical cleaners. The key is to be patient during the cleaning process and to take proper protective measures
1. The pressure of the water can be set below 10 MPa – it shouldn’t be too high. I don’t know the thickness of your pipe walls; if that value is exceeded, it’s your problem. 4. Some people might say that adding sodium hydroxide would be better, but that’s not true; especially now, don’t add it. Wait until the water has been cleaned thoroughly, and then add something suitable. That’s all; be careful not to damage the heat exchange tubes
