In our factory, a 10,000 KW motor is equipped with a speed increaser, which in turn drives a centrifugal air compressor. I would like to ask everyone: on site, I saw that only the speed increase unit has a barring motor. I would like to know how this barring motor works and whether it has a control system (from what I can see on site, it doesn’t seem to have automatic control; but then when does the barring mechanism disengage?) The turning mechanisms of large-scale equipment are generally controlled manually, as automatic control is not provided due to their extremely low utilization rate. When the equipment is in operation, the barring mechanism must be disengaged; otherwise, the main unit cannot be started (interlock control). The barring device is generally used only before starting the main unit or during maintenance.

Disconnect immediately when there is no need to turn the shaft. Large-scale units must be equipped with interlocks, meaning that the main engine cannot be started unless the turning gear is disengaged. It’s common sense; there shouldn’t be any universal rules or anything like that. Think about it: such a large unit is set to be put into operation, yet an accident occurs where the barring gear gets damaged (even the speed increaser gears are damaged); then one can understand its importance. :lol
