I have a shell-and-tube heat exchanger, and due to the requirements of the equipment, a large hole has been made in the center of its tube sheet. There are already holes in the tube sheet. Haha, if a large hole is to be made at the center of the tube sheet, one can refer to the Ministry of Light Industry’s methods for calculating evaporator tube sheets
The calculation method from the Ministry of Light Industry is not suitable for those with large holes in the center of the tube sheet. You can refer to the AD specifications. It is not clear whether the opening is present on both tube sheets with a large pipe welded to them, or only on one of the tube sheets. I have also been thinking about this issue recently, regarding making a hole in the tube sheet when welding a pipe. The opening in the middle weakens the tube sheet, but at the same time, having the pipe welded to this opening provides some support and reinforcement for the tube sheet. Some literature suggests that when the opening size is small, the middle tube can be replaced with a heat exchange tube of equal cross-sectional area for calculations. I’m not sure if what I said is correct; feel free to discuss it. .
When the opening is large, could consideration be given to performing calculations based on reinforcement for the pipe connection opening?
