The 2008 Environmental Impact Assessment Engineer Examination is scheduled to be held on May 10, 2008. Those who abide by laws and regulations, uphold professional ethics, and meet one of the following conditions may apply to take this professional qualification exam: (1) Holding an associate degree in a field related to environmental protection, with at least 7 years of experience in environmental impact assessment work； Or hold an associate degree in another field, with 8 years of experience in environmental impact assessment work. (II) Hold a bachelor’s degree in an environmental protection-related field, and have at least 5 years of experience in environmental impact assessment work ； Or hold a bachelor’s degree in another field, with at least 6 years of experience in environmental impact assessment. (III) Hold a master’s degree in an environmental protection-related field, and have at least 2 years of experience in environmental impact assessment work ； Or hold another professional master’s degree and have at least 3 years of experience in environmental impact assessment. (IV) Hold a doctoral degree in an environmental protection-related field, and have at least 1 year of experience in environmental impact assessment work ； Or hold a doctoral degree in another field, with at least 2 years of experience in environmental impact assessment. (5) Those who have worked in environmental impact assessment for a long time prior to December 31, 2003, and meet one of the following conditions, may be exempted from the exams on \"Technical Guidelines and Standards for Environmental Impact Assessment\" and \"Technical Methods for Environmental Impact Assessment\", and only need to take the exams on \"Case Analysis of Environmental Impact Assessment\" and \"Relevant Laws and Regulations on Environmental Impact Assessment\". 1. Have held a senior professional and technical position in the field of engineering for at least 3 years, with a cumulative total of 15 years of experience in environmental impact assessment-related work. 2. Be employed in a senior professional and technical position related to engineering, and hold the \"Certification of Completion of Training for Environmental Impact Assessment\" issued by the State Environmental Protection Administration. The four examination textbooks are dedicated materials for the national Unified Examination for Environmental Impact Assessment Engineers. Candidates can purchase them at the examination centers in various provinces across the country, or order them by mail through the online bookstore on this site.

Environmental impact assessment engineers are essential for environmental assessment firms. A firm classified as grade A requires at least 12 such engineers, while a grade B firm needs at least 6. For each industry category, grade A firms must have at least 3 engineers, and grade B firms must have at least 2. Currently, each person can be registered under only one industry category. For example, if a grade A firm operates in 3 grade A industry categories and 2 grade B categories, it will need 13 environmental impact assessment engineers. At the end of last year, all grade A firms had to renew their certifications; at the end of this year, all grade B firms will do the same. In my estimation, the annual income generated from holding an environmental assessment certification is around 20,000 to 30,000 yuan.

Certificates are not meant for mere formalities, but having one can give one an advantage, opening up greater career opportunities as well as providing more knowledge.
