Nos. 1 and 2 are distillate fuels suitable for use in household or industrial small burners. No. 4 Light and No. 4 fuel oil are heavy distillate fuel oils, or fuel oils formed by mixing distillate fuel oils with residue fuel oils. Grade 5 Light, Grade 5 Heavy, Grades 6 and 7 are residual fuel oils with increasing viscosity and boiling range; to facilitate loading/unloading and proper atomization, they generally require preheating at low temperatures. The most commonly used fuel oils in our country are No. 5 light, No. 5 heavy, No. 6, and No. 7 fuel oil. In the new standards, the viscosity control and grade classification for fuel oils No. 5 to No. 7 are based on the dynamic viscosity at 100°C. Fuel oils imported from abroad are generally classified according to their dynamic viscosity at 50°C, and they fall into two categories: those with a dynamic viscosity at 50°C of ≥180 mm2/s and those with a dynamic viscosity at 50°C also of ≥180 mm2/s.
