Can’t a stop valve be used? I don’t know what the reason is? Do the valves for the drain lines also need to be gate valves? I just can’t figure it out; I’d like some advice
A stop valve will work as well; it’s no problem. However, it should be noted that the pipeline must be empty of solids at the time of draining; otherwise, the stop valve may not close properly.
Gate valves or plug valves are generally used. Never use it if the stop valve does not close properly.

Globe valves, also known as gate valves, are a type of valve that is widely used. Compared to gate valves, globe valves have a simpler structure, are easier to manufacture and maintain, and offer good regulating performance; they are widely used in pipelines for transporting various types of media. However, as the fluid changes direction when passing through the stop valve, the resistance is high; therefore it is not suitable for use in pipelines containing materials with high viscosity, suspended particles, or those that tend to crystallize. It is also not appropriate as a vent valve or a valve for low-vacuum systems. Stop valves are widely used in various pipelines for pressurized fluids, and they are also commonly employed in steam and compressed air pipelines. A stop valve is a commonly used shut-off valve, primarily used to connect or disconnect the fluid in a pipeline, and it is generally not used for regulating flow. Gate valves can operate over a wide range of pressures and temperatures, but they are generally used in pipes with medium and small diameters. A valve in which the closing element (valve disc) moves along the center line of the valve seat, and the change in the opening of the valve seat is directly proportional to the travel distance of the valve disc.
With a gate valve, I feel it mainly gets clogged, but it’s easy to clean :)

For the drain valve, I think a plug valve is better – it’s easy to operate, not prone to clogging, and it’s simple to clean if it does get clogged.
Generally, I use ball valves more often. Gate valves are used for larger diameters, while globe valves are used for higher pressures.

The type of valve to be used for venting depends on the diameter of the pipeline, the medium flowing through it, and the available space at the site. If the diameter is small and the pressure is high, globe valves or gate valves are used; if the diameter is larger and the pressure isn’t too high, disc valves can be employed. At China National Coal Group, I used a 40-kilogram three-eccentric disc valve for venting – the diameter wasn’t large, but a disc valve was chosen due to the limited space available at the site
