We are developing a device for surfacing the inner wall of cylinders. As for radiographic testing of the welds, should it be done before or after the surfacing? Yes, the results are better before surfacing, but if the strength of the surfacing layer is taken into account, RT must be performed after surfacing. In such cases, it is best to do it once before surfacing and once after surfacing, in order to reduce the amount of work required for repairs.
In design drawings, designers never indicate whether the surfacing layer is taken into account in terms of strength, which can cause certain difficulties in actual operation.
Radiographic testing of the welds should be carried out before cladding, in order to detect any defects. The cladding layer is not very thick and protects the base material; I would like to ask the designer whether strength considerations have been taken into account. It is also necessary to check whether the cladding layer is dense enough to prevent cracking and corrosion of the base material – is that correct?

It is better to conduct radiographic testing before cladding; after cladding, it should be a process of reinforcement or thickening. Performing RT testing on the weld before cladding facilitates any necessary repairs.
