Indeed, all of the above conditions can cause the preprocessor to become unstable, but in most cases it is a matter of improper operation; with a bit of care, the problem can generally be resolved. I think the main reason is likely an issue with the quality of the raw salt, as its magnesium content is too high.
What the original poster mentioned above is all correct; another point is that the ratio of calcium to magnesium ions in the brine fed into the pretreater is extremely important.
