The controller is one that simulates process feedback, by adjusting a certain parameter (control variable) to achieve a specified property or flow rate of the material in the downstream process unit. Each controller includes only one specification and one control variable. This specification can be of a logistical nature or related to flow rate, the operating conditions of a unit, or the result of a calculator. A control variable can be a logistics or operating condition of a unit, a thermodynamic property, or a calculator result. The specifications in the distillation module define the separation requirements to be achieved for given feed conditions; there is no feedback, and for a given material, multiple specifications can exist.
