I have just started working in the field of manufacturing processes. Since this isn’t my area of specialization, there are many things I don’t understand! I would like to ask how the lengths of elliptical end caps, connections on cylinders, and elbows are calculated. I’ve always determined these lengths by using drafting methods; I’m interested in knowing how the calculations are done. Thank you all in advance

For elliptical heads and upper nozzles on cylinders, the length of elbows depends not only on the material of the nozzles and cylinders but also on process requirements (for example, if the equipment needs insulation and the thickness of that insulation layer is 200 mm, then according to the design manual the nozzle length should be 150 mm; in such a case, the nozzle length must be increased accordingly, and reinforcing braces can be used if necessary)
It is generally specified that the distance between the outer edge of the takeover flange and the outer wall of the tank or its external insulation layer should be 25 mm or more. For your reference.

Based on the heat-affected zone of welding, the length of the nozzle should be 1 to 2 times larger than D (the diameter of the opening); I’ve forgotten exactly how many times, so I need to check the specifications.
