Does anyone have any good methods for removing sulfur dioxide from an aqueous solution? But no new impurities can be introduced.
In the sulfuric acid production industry from pyrite, the high-temperature flue gas coming out of the waste heat boilers is further cooled and purified using venturi tubes and foam towers. Water washing is the method most commonly employed; this water contains large amounts of sulfur dioxide, which is recovered to prevent its release into the wastewater. The sulfur dioxide-containing aqueous solution is then heated with steam in a distillation tower to desorb the dissolved sulfur dioxide. Similarly, in the ammonia synthesis industry, ammonia vaporization towers are used to desorb ammonia dissolved in aqueous solutions by heating. In general, this involves using the change in equilibrium partial pressure to desorb the dissolved gas.
