The wet chlorine gas coming out of the electrolyzer has a temperature of over 80 degrees, contains a high amount of moisture, and also has some salts in it; as a result, its corrosiveness is very high. PVC clearly cannot meet the temperature requirements, while using titanium is too costly. What materials do people use for pipes in such situations? CPVC, epoxy fiberglass, or something else? # , , &

I’ve visited many manufacturers, and there are various types of materials used: TA2, FRP+PVC, etc. Personally, I think that if one has sufficient financial resources, it’s better to use titanium; of course, using FRP+PVC is also an option. However, some manufacturers (a chlorine-alkali plant in Jiangsu) have encountered problems with these materials, as their temperature resistance and corrosion resistance are slightly lower, though they are cheaper.

My old factory has always used such materials, and after winding the fiberglass, an ultraviolet-resistant coating is applied to enhance its resistance to aging. If money permits, TA2 can be used – it’s the best material with a very long service life
Our factory uses PVC/FRP; it’s been four years now and there are no problems
For wet chlorine pipelines, PVC/FRP is sufficient, but expansion joints must be installed; the service life is over three years
The pump circulation pipe shall be a steel-lined PTFE pipe; others can use CVVC or FRP/PVC
The chlorine pipeline section coming out of the electrolyzer needs to be made of titanium (due to the high temperatures), while the rest of the chlorine pipelines can be made of PVC/FRP.
Our company uses FRP/PVC materials; previously, no expansion joints were installed, and leaks would occur at the welds of the pipes every time the system was started up or shut down. After major maintenance during a shutdown, expansion joints were added, and now those problems no longer occur.
It is recommended to use titanium materials in the electrolysis plant to ensure no leaks; The exterior of the factory building is covered with PVC/FRP, which is inexpensive and easy to maintain. Compensators are required for both materials.
