In the wet scrubbing process for purifying flue gas, the sludge formed as a result of scrubbing is traditionally separated from the liquid using conventional sedimentation tanks or cone-shaped sedimentators. Due to the fine size of the particles, the settling speed using ordinary gravity-based sedimentation methods is too slow, which affects the efficiency of separation on an industrial scale. A more modern approach is the use of inclined plate or tube sedimentators. The question is in what situations it is appropriate to use them – are inclined plates better or inclined tubes? What are the main process requirements for selection? Many domestic environmental protection companies claim to be able to provide this service, but I feel that the quality of their offerings varies greatly; they lack the necessary theoretical foundation. Most importantly, different operating conditions require the use of different types of systems and process parameters. Which are the main domestic manufacturers or design firms that perform well in this field?
Currently, inclined tubes are still more commonly used, as their effective treatment area is larger than that of inclined plates, giving them a wider range of applications and enabling their use in various fields of wastewater treatment.
For the situation described by the poster, a centrifuge could be considered; inclined plates or inclined tubes are not very suitable options, as these are generally used when flocs have been formed after adding a flocculant. Using a centrifuge is convenient
