How to manage spare parts well/

The spare parts needed for workshop repairs – I seem to have heard that Toyota in Japan operates with zero inventory of spare parts.

Our factory submits a spare parts plan on a monthly basis; the amount submitted is determined by the inventory levels in the workshops. For this purpose, we have installed specialized software that allows us to check the overall inventory of spare parts across the factory. After the plan is submitted, it is approved by the factory’s management before purchases are made. I think it’s not realistic to achieve zero inventory of spare parts in China at the moment. If anything, in some chemical plants abroad, there are no maintenance staff at all – just a few operators who take care of the entire installation, and any issues can be resolved by simply making a phone call: lol

1. Classification code, name, specification model, device number used, unit, inventory level, importance, vulnerability, unit price, purchasing manufacturer, manufacturer’s phone number, ordering cycle, other manufacturers, etc., of spare parts. 2. For larger components in the specifications and models, their weight must be indicated; for consumables, the material type must be specified; for equipment that requires lubrication, the type of lubricant must be stated. In short, for any type of spare part, its relevant key specifications must be provided. 3. It is recommended to use an open classification system, that is, a classification framework that can be expanded at any time. The classification codes should be formed by combining the standard name code of the category with a serial number, and the categories must be continuously expanded as they are used. It is important to note not to worry about the hierarchy of categories (for example, not to focus on relationships such as ‘light oil station’ > ‘oil pump motor’); otherwise, it cannot be implemented.

I think what you’re referring to is only part of it (the aspect related to reserves); for example, how do the equipment and personnel formulate plans?

If working with established companies were easy, it would suffice to check the inventory and the spare parts used each month, and then restock them on a monthly basis. Setting up a new factory is quite complicated; it has to be built from scratch. The amount of spare parts required depends on the operating conditions of the equipment. At least one set of spare parts is needed for all types of equipment, while standard items such as bearings and bolts can be kept with zero inventory. For other items, it takes one or two years to establish an adequate supply.

In terms of learning*, I personally think the approach used on the 3rd floor is better.
