The diameter of the smooth shaft portion in a Type B bolt is equal to the root diameter of its threads, and a small radius serves as a transition between this smooth portion and the threads, ensuring good structural continuity. As a result, it has a greater capacity to withstand alternating loads compared to Type A bolts.
The capacity to bear a constant load is the same; however, type A is chosen when the temperature is not high, while type B is selected at high temperatures
If the three types of studs you mentioned are bolts of the same specification, then the cross-sectional area at the root of their threads should be identical; and if the materials are the same, their allowable stress should also be the same； However, for Type B studs, since the shank of its non-threaded portion has the same diameter as the minor diameter of the thread, it is smaller than that of Type A (whose shank diameter is equal to the major diameter of the thread). Therefore, the thermal stress on Type B studs in high-temperature environments is lower than that on Type A studs, and Type B studs are more commonly used in high-temperature conditions. Fully threaded studs are easy to use.
