When working on fire protection design, we face the question of whether to use the building design fire protection codes or those specific to petrochemical industry facilities. There are some differences between these two sets of codes. The question is: are there any uniform requirements regarding which codes should be used in design, and how should we make such a choice? The fire department is in charge. They establish rules (some of which are even conflicting), they are responsible for interpreting them, and overseeing their enforcement. Therefore, to avoid any misunderstandings, it is definitely very helpful to communicate with the fire department as early as possible!
