In the DSTWu model in Aspen, the “refulx Ration” in the column specification should refer to the reflux ratio. There is an example problem in which one of the conditions is that the actual reflux ratio/minimum reflux ratio = 1.3; however, the value entered for the reflux ratio in that example is –1.3. If only the actual reflux ratio is known and not the minimum reflux ratio, how should it be filled in?
I remember it like this: a positive value indicates the actual reflux ratio, while a negative value represents the ratio of the actual reflux ratio to the minimum reflux ratio. I don’t have ASPEN installed on my computer right now, but the original poster can take a look – by moving the mouse over the parameter in question, the comments below will indicate what positive and negative values mean.

The answers for floor 4 and floor 8 are correct. The negative sign is a requirement imposed by the software; it indicates that the value entered is a multiple of the minimum reflux ratio, and it does not mean a negative value
