Our factory has a pressure vessel that requires welding work; what procedures are needed to carry out this work? Please, someone who understands can explain it to me! Thank you
Is the poster referring to welding work at the installation site? First, it is necessary to inform the on-site safety supervisor and fill out an application form for permission to carry out welding work there; thereafter, the on-site safety supervisor will issue instructions to the various teams involved in the project to suspend any construction activities that could interfere with the welding work. That’s roughly how it works. Experts, please add more details if possible.
I mean, performing welding on the device itself – it doesn’t seem that simple, does it? Is it related to design institutes and boiler inspection agencies as well?
Is what the poster is referring to maintenance work? When performing maintenance on pressure vessels, it is necessary to first choose a unit with the appropriate qualifications, and secondly, bring the equipment’s documentation along with the contractor’s qualification certificates to the boiler inspection agency in order to obtain a maintenance notification.
It shouldn’t be the case. What the original poster is referring to is problems that arise with the equipment itself at the site – it might be due to incorrect hole drilling, or welding repairs may be necessary, etc. Our usual approach is to have design changes prepared and submitted to the owner for approval; if the design drawings need to be altered, they also have to be submitted to a third party and to the pressure vessel inspection agency. Once approved, we contact the on-site safety supervisor before proceeding with construction. After completion, NDT tests need to be conducted on the welded areas again, pressure testing is performed, painting is applied, and finally the work is submitted to the owner for acceptance. Containers that have undergone heat treatment must not be subjected to welding or similar operations. If such work is necessary, an application must be submitted and it must be approved by experts; otherwise, the containers will not be accepted
If it is hot work for maintenance purposes, it must be carried out in accordance with your company’s safety regulations. Generally, chemical companies should have forms for maintenance work and permits for hot work; work can only begin after these procedures have been completed.
