Experts, why are multi-stage centrifugal pumps used for crude oil pumps? Can’t it be done with a single stage? Please help me analyze it.

It’s purely a design issue. It works just fine without using a multi-stage pump. In fact, single-stage or double-stage centrifugal pumps can fully meet the operational requirements, and they are also easier to maintain. The frequency of failures with multi-stage pumps is also too high, and their performance is not satisfactory.
Multi-stage pumps are mainly used in process conditions with a large pressure difference between the inlet and outlet; for process conditions with a smaller pressure difference, single-stage pumps can be used just fine.
