Boiler water quality: According to the current **standards, its pH value must be between 10 and 12. However, at present, the design institute has specified that the pH level for our equipment should be between 9 and 11; as a result, the water quality tests for the boilers fail every year. It is quite difficult to address this issue from a process perspective. Do any of you encounter such problems in production? How do you solve them? Let’s share our experiences.

Boilers generally use softened water to remove salts such as calcium and magnesium, in order to prevent scaling. If the pH level is too low, ammonia can be added to adjust it
Boiler water quality depends not only on the pH value but also on the phosphate content as well as the quality of the steam produced. The quality of steam is determined by conductivity, pH value, and phosphate content. The pH value of the boiler water is closely related to the phosphate content and pH value in the boiler feedwater. The phosphates in the boiler feedwater can hydrolyze to form the weak acid phosphoric acid and sodium hydroxide, resulting in an alkaline environment. Generally, ammonia is used first to adjust the pH value of the boiler feedwater, and then phosphates are used to adjust it further. The quality of the boiler water is also closely related to the steam produced; different applications for steam require different qualities of boiler water. Generally, the steam intended for use in turbines needs to have a higher quality than that used in industrial processes, and the higher the requirements for steam quality, the higher the standards required for boiler water quality as well.
