Experience from the promotion and application of controlled-release fertilizers both domestically and internationally shows that the main factors limiting their use, especially in agriculture, are production costs and selling prices. Based on pot experiments, field trials, and demonstration studies conducted on various crops using coated controlled-release fertilizers, it can be seen that such fertilizers increase the nutrient utilization efficiency by 50% or even more. Based on this, significant yield increases can still be achieved even when the amount of fertilizer used is reduced by one-third to half. If the price of controlled-release fertilizers can be kept within twice the price of conventional fertilizers, farmers can achieve the same or even higher economic yields while using 1/3 to half as much fertilizer, which will bring significant economic benefits to them. Controlled-release fertilizers can be applied once per growing season for a crop, saving a great deal of labor, time, and energy associated with fertilization and transportation, while also reducing the damage that topdressing may cause to the crops. The application of controlled-release fertilizers offers reliable safety for various crops, especially flowers and ornamental plants, as well as during the seedling stage and cultivation of different crops. If the social and environmental benefits generated by controlled-release fertilizers are taken into account, their application prospects will be even broader.
