Methanol is unloaded from ships using pumps at the dock; the dock floor is at a higher level than the methanol level. How should the pump be selected?
Using a pneumatic diaphragm pump, its suction lift can reach 7 meters. Pneumatic diaphragm pumps use compressed air as a power source, so there are no safety issues. Thanks to the diaphragm, the material being transported is not contaminated nor does it leak. If the suction capacity is not sufficient, simply submerge the pneumatic pump in methanol. The pump is small anyway, and it has no electricity or lubricant required. Don’t forget to run two pipes out of it: one for supplying compressed air and another for releasing it. Under no circumstances should the air be released into the methanol, as mixing the two can cause an explosion – remember this carefully. Just prepare a pneumatic diaphragm pump and an air compressor – it will definitely work well. If budget permits, use a self-priming shielded pump.
