There is a significant difference between on-site work and working at the control station – the latter requires a good understanding of the on-site operations. Only after becoming familiar with and competent in the on-site tasks can one think more effectively and solve problems better from the control room.
If you’re not familiar with the site, entering the control room may prevent you from progressing; at best, you can only become an excellent operator of instruments or controllers. Learning transformation may be more difficult, but it allows one to master a *system, giving them a say in their future development.
