Indirect liquefaction: Shanxi Lu’an Group and Inner Mongolia Yitai Group have adopted the slurry bed technology developed by the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, to build a demonstration plant with a capacity of 160,000 tons; oil production is scheduled to begin during trials in August 2008. The Lu’an coal-to-oil demonstration plant uses the Lurgi pressure swing gasification technology to produce syngas, and recovers CO2 to produce urea; the Yitai demonstration plant employs the Texaco gasification technology to produce syngas. The main products manufactured at the two demonstration plants are diesel ； Yankuang Group’s proprietary low-temperature Fischer-Tropsch synthesis technology will be used to establish a 1-million-ton indirect liquefaction facility in the Yulin area of Shaanxi. Direct liquefaction: Shenhua Group has now completed 98% of the work involved in coal-to-oil production. At this stage, the main focus is on resolving the issues related to Shell’s gasification process. The Shenhua coal-to-oil project combines direct liquefaction and indirect liquefaction, thereby overcoming the shortcomings of each of these two liquefaction techniques. It is more conducive to improving efficiency.
Additionally, the 3 million-ton coal-to-oil project at Lu’an is already in the planning stage.
The direct coal liquefaction project of Shenhua Ordos will not be able to start operating until after the beginning of this spring at the earliest. The biggest issue at present is freeze prevention during winter; if this problem is not addressed properly, the plant certainly won’t be able to operate. Trying to force it to run will only lead to accidents!!!
The Lu’an Coal-to-Oil Pilot Plant uses the Lurgi pressure swing gasification technology to produce syngas; the gasifier is now in operation! Installing now! The thermal power boiler for the air separation unit has been installed! Single-series test run after the New Year! The gasifier is being installed! 50% completion of wastewater treatment equipment! It will be quite difficult to conduct test oil production in August next year!
