The tower is 5 meters tall, with each enamel tower section being 1 meter long; regular ceramic packing of 450 type is planned to be used. Question: 1. Is a liquid redistributor required? 2. Are there more efficient fillers? (Resistant to chlorine) 3. The material is heat-sensitive
It is best to install a vapor-liquid redistributor in the middle; however, it is not necessary if the separation requirements are not high
The biggest problem with structured packing is uneven distribution. Since the height-to-diameter ratio of your tower is relatively high, it’s best to install a liquid-phase redistributor; the number of layers required will depend on the height of your packing layer
We have used such towers; as long as each section of the tower is properly sealed when filled, for example by using PTFE packing to fill the area around the packing so that the gas phase cannot take a shortcut, gas-liquid exchange can be carried out effectively if the gas must pass through the packing. Of course, using a distributor would be even better, though it adds some complexity. For substances that are sensitive to heat, vacuum distillation is the only option – there seems to be no other way. The higher the vacuum level, the better. As for the material of the packing, it’s best to consult a professional manufacturer; there are many new types of efficient packing available these days
A liquid separator should be installed for structured packing. The problem is that the use of ceramic material indicates that the material being processed is quite corrosive; otherwise, stainless steels such as 304 or 316L would have been sufficient. The question is, given the use of ceramic material, how should the liquid distributor inside the ceramic tower be designed? I would appreciate some guidance from those with experience, thank you!
