Many towers that use concentrated sulfuric acid for drying are equipped with a separate demister behind them. I’m not sure how the size of such a demister is determined from a technical perspective, nor what its efficiency in removing mist is. I’ve checked many design manuals, but none provide information on this topic; I wonder how others handle the demisters installed behind their towers

There are many types of mist eliminators available for use behind it; the most commonly used in industry are wire mesh mist eliminators (which come in drawer-type, standard-type, and wave-type versions); Coke defoamer ; Dry-type fiber demister. For general small and medium-sized installations, a wire mesh demister can be used; 316L material is chosen as it offers a good cost-performance ratio. If high requirements are placed on the backend, it is best to choose a non-wet fiber demister. The basis for selecting them depends on the volume of air in the process flow; the gas velocity across the mesh screen is generally set at 1.8–2 m/s, while for fiber foam eliminators it is usually 0.5 m/s.
