As you are aware, the ICI slot is an older type of slot; it is relatively small, has a low electrical density, and is used by fewer manufacturers. It seems to have withdrawn from the market in recent years. However, ICI has introduced its new cell, the INOES electrolyzer; it seems to be from the same company. :o
Since our company is a firm that specializes in the repair of ion exchange membrane cells, ICI cells are quite widely used in Southeast Asia. We are currently in talks with those companies regarding maintenance cooperation agreements, and therefore we need detailed information about this type of cell.
I don’t know which repair company my colleague works for; we use electric cells of the FM21-SP type manufactured by the British company ICI. There are four such companies in China: Dacheng Pesticides, Jianghan Oilfield, Yibin in Sichuan, and Lubei Chemicals. Let me give you a brief overview: This cell is a single-pole cell, with 119 pole chambers in total. The operating current density is 3 KA/M2, and the effective area of each cell is 0.21 square meters; therefore, there are 119 membranes in total, with each membrane having an area of 0.21 square meters. It operates on a natural circulation principle, but the circulation effect is poor; there are dead zones and gas chambers, which represents its biggest drawback. It is said that the INOES electrolyzer developed by ICI is quite good – it is considered to be the best electrolyzer in the world at present. At a current density of 5 KA, its power consumption is only 2046 KW/T. For the FM21-SP type electrolyzers, Canada’s Kemite process technology is used in China. At that time, this type of electrolyzer was relatively advanced compared to companies such as Asahi Kasei, Asahi Glass, Toho Chemical, and Chloren Engineering, as it utilized natural circulation and had lower power consumption; of course, it cannot be compared to today’s high-electrode-density natural circulation systems.
