Given the design pressure of the container (4650 KPaG), how is the set pressure of the safety valve determined?
The setting for the safety valve should be 1.05 to 1.1 times the maximum operating pressure; a value of 1.1 can be used when the pressure is low, while 1.05 times the pressure is appropriate for high pressures. The operating pressure of the safety valve should be set based on your actual maximum operating pressure, but it must not exceed the design pressure.
The set pressure of a safety valve has no direct relation to its design pressure. The set pressure of the safety valve is primarily determined by the maximum operating pressure of the equipment. The design pressure of the equipment can be much higher than the operating pressure.
