As far as I know, for transporting water, galvanized pipes are more than sufficient in most cases, unless the production facility has high requirements for the quality of the water. In the situation you described, it seems that electrode reactions have taken place in the pipelines; generally, it’s better to use pipes made of metals with different levels of activity, as this reduces the likelihood of electrode reactions and helps prevent corrosion of the pipes
Ordinary steel pipes will do; corrosion is inevitable. Dissolved oxygen is removed from boiler water because it can cause direct corrosion of equipment under high-temperature conditions. Ordinary tap water is more corrosive than softened or desalinated water, as it contains more impurities and is thus more prone to electrochemical corrosion.

As far as I know, pure water can dissolve metals; however, if no electrochemical reaction occurs, the amount involved is quite minimal, and it has no impact on design or actual production. Under normal circumstances, the solubility of water for substances is limited at a certain temperature.

Different stainless steel grades have varying corrosion resistance. Even pure water contains chloride ions and dissolved oxygen. I wonder what grade of stainless steel the original poster and you have chosen? If the grade is chosen incorrectly, it’s your own problem. If the right grade is chosen, then it’s a problem with the material.
