A synthetic ammonia plant is building a new branch facility, and the two plants plan to share pipelines for the transfer of materials (high-pressure nitrogen and hydrogen, liquid ammonia, semi-water gas, steam, etc.) from one to the other (from A to B or from B to A) as a precaution. I intend to install vortex flow meters and high-pressure lens-type orifice plates in each branch facility for handling nitrogen and hydrogen. However, the pressure drop loss is astonishing, and long-term use is certainly not cost-effective. I would like to ask if there are flow meters that can measure traffic in both directions
The thermal mass type seems to be bidirectional; ultrasonic waves, electromagnetic methods, and mass flow meters can all be used in a bidirectional manner!
Electromagnetic ones won’t work; there is no conductive medium
This is available; generally, it can be set using an electromagnetic flowmeter.
Those upstairs should be aware that electromagnetic flowmeters cannot be used to measure the high-pressure nitrogen and hydrogen gases, semi-water gas, or steam mentioned by the poster. Liquid ammonia is highly corrosive, so care must be taken when selecting sensors. There is a type of multi-channel ultrasonic flowmeter that can measure bidirectional flow, but it is less commonly used. I think it’s safer, more economical, and more reliable to install a bypass and place the flowmeter in reverse orientation, with valves for switching
Consider using an A+K balanced flow meter for two-way measurement; if that still doesn’t meet the requirements, then a Rosemount mass flow meter must be used
