Singapore Launches Biodiesel Testing Source: International Financial News, December 13, 2007 On December 12, Singapore announced a testing plan for 13 high-performance diesel vehicles from Germany. This three-year test was led by Robert Bosch (Southeast Asia) Pte. Ltd. in Singapore. The key prerequisite for this initiative is that the biodiesel used in the project must come from renewable, sustainable sources and be produced through environmentally friendly processes. It is understood that the testing items this time include the pollution emissions and fuel consumption of these modern diesel vehicles. These modern diesel vehicles are equipped with diesel particulate filters (DPF), but such vehicles have not yet been put into use in Singapore. Another objective of this project is to test biodiesel mixed with 5% palm methyl ester; it aims to demonstrate that in tropical regions like Singapore, biodiesel can be used directly in diesel engine vehicles without causing any other technical or environmental problems.
