Our company uses Monsanto’s filter elements; since we started using them in April, the results have been good – the water content in the hydrogen gas has decreased significantly compared to using previous filter elements, and the pressure difference is also lower.
Domestic ones can also be used, but after a short period of use the resistance increases; therefore, imported ones are better as they reduce the need for maintenance significantly.
Why does your hydrogen system need to capture water mist? Besides drying, what other purposes is it served for?
The purpose is, after removing water mist, 1. to facilitate transportation, as pipes are prone to freezing in winter, which can cause transportation problems. 2. Facilitates the compression and filling of gas cylinders. Monsanto’s filter elements are of good quality, but the delivery time is too long. Let’s quickly achieve returns on investment. Ours are also from Monsanto; the downstream hydrogen products require high-quality raw hydrogen, so there’s nothing we can do about that. Those with lower requirements can use less premium-grade hydrogen. Even with our current approach, a large amount of hydrogen is still wasted… what a shame.
Previously, we used Roots blowers to compress hydrogen without a mist removal device, and subsequent processes such as compressing hydrogen to hydrochloric acid worked well. Later, as the scale expanded, new hydrogen treatment systems were installed using domestic filter elements. In summer, there is no issue with condensation water in the system pipes after hydrogen is compressed; in winter, the amount of condensation water is also very low, with water needing to be drained only once per shift. Using Monsanto’s filter elements guarantees quality (we use Monsanto’s ones for chlorination, and they work well), but the price is too high; I don’t think it’s necessary.

In some domestic applications where strict requirements are placed on the water content of hydrogen, using the rod-shaped alkali from Shanghai Chlor-Alkali yields excellent results
To reduce the water content in hydrogen to below the dew point, using a mist catcher might not be sufficient. Mist catchers are supposed to be used after the scrubber tower, right? Otherwise, I think the presence of alkali in the hydrogen will affect the performance, and the pressure difference will rise rapidly as well.
Yes, the demister collects water mist while also capturing the alkali dissolved in the mist.
