The quinoline-insoluble substances in coal tar refer to native QI, which is related to the type and properties of the coking coal, the structure and condition of the coking oven, the method of charging coal, as well as the methods for separating ammonia water from tar and tar residues. Its components include inorganic QI and organic QI. Inorganic QI refers to the ash particles in coal and other inorganic substances that end up in coal tar during the coking process; these cannot be settled and removed during the storage of coal tar. Organic QI are large molecular aromatic compounds formed by the thermal polymerization of pyrolysis products generated during coal coking, and their properties are similar to those of carbon black.
