The World Meteorological Organization released the 2006 Greenhouse Gas Bulletin in Geneva on the 23rd, stating that the average concentration of carbon dioxide in the global atmosphere last year was 381.2 ppm, an increase of 0.53% compared to 2005, representing the highest level ever recorded. 　　The World Meteorological Organization says that greenhouse gases are the main cause of global warming. In addition to carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide are also common greenhouse gases. In 2006, the concentration of nitrous oxide in the atmosphere reached another record high, at 320.1 ppb, an increase of 0.25% compared to 2005. The methane concentration is 1782 ppb, with little change compared to previous years. 　　The World Meteorological Organization emphasizes that since the late 18th century, carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere have increased by 36%, primarily due to human activities such as the use of fossil fuels and deforestation. Furthermore, about one-third of the nitrous oxide released into the atmosphere comes from human activities ； 60% of methane in the atmosphere comes from human activities.
