Terms related to reclaimed water reuse ① Individual recycling: The method of reusing wastewater treated into reclaimed water within a specific building for use in that same building. ②Regional recycling: A method in which wastewater and recycled water are reused together in areas that are relatively concentrated, such as residential complexes and urban redevelopment zones, involving multiple buildings. ③Wide-area recycling: A method in which reclaimed water from urban sewers is reused over a large area for purposes such as in buildings. ④Reclaimed water: Water that has been treated as a result of wastewater treatment, and is used for toilet flushing, irrigation, landscape purposes, and other applications involving water in contact with people. It refers not only to treated wastewater but also to water that is reused after being mixed with other water sources. ⑤Reuse of water for toilet flushing: Recycled water is used to flush toilets. Toilets with a water tank for washing hands cannot be used. ⑥Use of water for sprinkling: Recycled water is used for watering lawns and trees in parks and green spaces, as well as for cleaning street surfaces. ⑦Landscape water use: comfortable utilization of recycled water on the premise of no human contact. ⑧Hydrophilic water utilization: the comfortable use of reclaimed water, based on human contact. ⑨Recycling facilities: A complete set of engineering systems that include the treatment facilities used to recycle wastewater, the water distribution systems, and the equipment utilized for its reuse. ⑩Waste water treatment facilities: A general term for the engineering installations used to carry out necessary treatments on wastewater (such as sand filtration and chlorination). Used for toilet flushing water and similar purposes. ⑩Water distribution facilities: A general term for the facilities used to transport recycled water from the recycling treatment plants to the devices that utilize it. ⑩Devices and facilities used by users to utilize reclaimed water include water storage tanks, toilet flushers, sprinklers, as well as landscape elements such as water flows and ponds, and waters for aquatic use. Note: In the definitions of water use for landscapes and waterfront areas, “human contact” refers to the immersion of hands and feet or partial contact with the body in streams, rather than full-body contact such as bathing. Examples of water coming into contact with parts of the body include activities such as fishing in flowing water, boating, and fishing.
