For a diesel hydrogenation upgrade in a certain plant, the combined compressor for fresh hydrogen and recycled hydrogen was designed by Italian company Sinibron; the third stage is the fresh hydrogen compressor, while the fourth stage is dedicated to recycled hydrogen; The plant management proposed modifying this compressor to simultaneously carry out hydrogenation of the wax oil after modification (at a pressure of 5.0 MPa) and hydrogenation of gasoline (at a separator pressure of 2.0 MPa), while also providing recycled hydrogen. After the modification work was completed, an SEI expert said that it was absolutely not possible to operate the unit. Experts in equipment handling, what is the reason for this?
Was no demonstration conducted before the renovation? Without knowing your company’s manufacturing processes and the condition of your compressors, could LZ provide more details so that we can learn from them?
Hydrogen is a gas with extremely high danger; before any modifications, expert evaluation is required to determine whether it affects safety, as the specific circumstances are not known. It’s just a guess.
It’s actually quite simple: the original cyclohydrogen compressor was designed to work together with the new hydrogen compressor; it is a reciprocating compressor with a design pressure ratio of 1.3. If it is used as two separate hydrogenation cycles, the inlet pressure must be reduced to 2.0, while the outlet pressure must meet the requirements for wax oil hydrogenation, which requires a pressure of over 6.5 MPA – at that pressure the pressure ratio becomes 3.2. Do you think it’s possible to operate it in such conditions? The most critical issue is the volume of circulation; the exhaust volume of a single compressor is not sufficient to meet the requirements of wax oil and gasoline hydrogenation.
There is enough fresh hydrogen, but there are problems with the recycled hydrogen. If the original design of 5.0 MPa is followed, the total volume of recycled hydrogen plus fresh hydrogen amounts to 60,000 M3/H; however, with the inlet pressure changed to 2.0 MPa, this becomes impossible
