During this maintenance period, our company’s sulfuric acid production plant was shut down for almost two years; it is now planned to convert it into a system with two reactors and two absorbers for restart of production. Today, we opened the dry absorber tower and found a lot of crystals and acid sludge on the ceramic rings. Should we remove all the ceramic rings, wash them thoroughly with water before reinstalling them, or should we simply use water to clean the inside of the tower? In any case, the acid return pipe is broken, and removing everything would require an enormous amount of work.
If there is flooding inside the tower and a large amount of water seeps into the brick lining, the steel shell of the tower may corrode rapidly; this requires careful consideration.
It is best to take it out for rinsing; this also allows any broken porcelain rings to be removed and replaced. The disadvantages of washing with water have been explained by the person above.

Convert it to two rotations and two suction ports? The purification criteria also need to be taken into account; the purification system must be modified accordingly.
There is too much acidic sludge, which is caused by inadequate air filtration – dust in the air accumulates in the dry absorption tower! It has little impact on the air flow rate and the degree of drying, so it can still be used!
When I found that four-fifths of the fan’s outlet pipe was blocked by acidic sludge, I thought it might be because the zinc-containing particles in the flue gas had not been completely removed. So I took a sample of the acidic sludge for analysis, and the results showed that it contained only 0% zinc. 6%; the zinc content in our zinc-bearing sand should be around 50%. Could it be that the drying acid used during drying has dissolved the zinc? Otherwise, how could there be so much acidic sludge?
