A vacuum distillation tower has been in use for 8 years; during this time, the wax oil section and the intermediate oil collection tanks have suffered severe corrosion and were replaced. (The tower body is made of 16MnR, while the oil collection tanks are made of stainless steel 1Cr18Ni9Ti.) Please discuss what tests need to be carried out on this tower. Conduct the inspection in accordance with the requirements of the original design drawings
It would be best for LZ to first determine whether the pressure reduction tower is considered a pressure vessel; if so, it is necessary to follow relevant standards throughout the entire process of design, modification, and inspection, and there are available documents on this matter. The pressure reduction tower does not fall under the category of pressure vessels (otherwise it would have been addressed long before severe corrosion occurred: lol). Since there are no drawings available, only a few brief points can be provided for reference: 1. A comprehensive inspection of the tower is necessary, which includes measuring the thickness of the tower walls; if required, the welds are inspected using coloring techniques or even non-destructive testing methods. The purpose of this is to determine which parts of the tower need to be replaced. In cases where there is only localized corrosion rather than widespread corrosion, patch welding may suffice. Coloring or non-destructive testing is used primarily to check for defects such as cracks in the welds, after all, the tower has been in use for eight years. 2. Once a comprehensive inspection of the tower is completed, a renovation plan can be prepared (if the corrosion is indeed severe, it is recommended to consider replacing it with corrosion-resistant materials) for implementation. During construction, the manufacturing specifications for pressure vessels under normal conditions are followed; the key point is that when rolling the cylinder shell, its dimensions must match those of the existing cylinder shell, and not those specified in the original drawings – otherwise it will be difficult to ensure proper alignment during assembly. Other aspects to consider include straightness and weld inspection, among others. 3. After the renovation is completed, a comprehensive hydrostatic test or water filling leak test should generally be carried out.
