It is well known that shell gasification technology requires substantial investment; could any expert in this field provide a specific figure? It is said that the lack of a backup furnace in chemical applications is a fatal flaw of this technology, but installing one comes at a huge cost. And where is the immaturity of its technology manifesting itself at present? Furthermore, the adaptability of different coal types is not as wide as Shell claims.
The performance guarantees they provide apply only to a specific design value, rather than to an entire range. Even slight changes in the coal quality can lead to the failure of these guarantees.
