The problem of water extraction in the three-column distillation of methanol?

In methanol production, during the operation of the three-column distillation and recovery column, 1) low-pressure steam is directly introduced into the bottoms of the first three columns, and 2) desalinated water also enters the bottom of the recovery column. I’m not quite sure what the purpose of this is? Please, any masters passing by, offer some guidance
Some data suggest that adding the extracted water at the top of the tower or to the tower top condensate reflux tank yields better results. Is that true?
I’m hearing about this for the first time; could you send over any prepositions or diagrams?
