How can chlorine be separated from hydrogen chloride gas, which contains 3% chlorine? Please advise us; our current process is too lengthy and we plan to make changes. Originally, we used water to absorb the HCl gas and then stripped the chlorine from the acid.
If hydrogen chloride is synthesized directly, it should not contain chlorine gas, as hydrogen is in excess. If it are other by-products, are there any other gases? If it is only hydrogen chloride gas and chlorine gas, it might be better to absorb HCl first and then separate out CL2
If possible, I would appreciate it if the original poster could provide more detailed information about the specific situation, so that everyone can come up with suggestions. I think what was said above is quite good; it’s possible that this is indeed how you are handling things right now
Use a sodium sulfite solution to absorb chlorine gas from the air.
Have you considered the absorption-desorption process? After absorption into hydrochloric acid, desorption can yield high-purity hydrogen chloride gas; if water content is a concern, a condenser can be installed for condensation and dehydration.
Is the poster intending to absorb hydrogen chloride and then use chlorine? By absorbing hydrogen chloride into a mixed gas to form hydrochloric acid, and then carrying out steam stripping, chlorine can be obtained; however, the amount of chlorine that actually dissolves in this way is relatively small. If hydrochloric acid is not to be used, calcium hydroxide solution could be considered for absorbing hydrogen chloride to produce calcium chloride solution, which can then be used to manufacture calcium chloride products. Chlorine has a low solubility in solutions containing chloride ions: lol:lol
Pure hydrogen chloride can be obtained by absorbing chlorine gas using chlorosulfonic acid, and the chlorosulfonic acid that has absorbed the chlorine gas can be heated to desorb the chlorine gas.
