The development of coal chemical industry is mainly concentrated in Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Xinjiang, and Guizhou; transportation is primarily discussed in terms of these regions, as water transport is very difficult! It still relies on roads; everyone should think of more solutions. The transportation of heavy goods has indeed become one of the main bottlenecks in the development of coal chemical industries in the western region. The second key issue is water resources.

There is a company named Lishen Transportation in Shandong, located in Qingdao; it has connections with the military and is capable of transporting very large items. It seems that all the large-scale shipments for Yangzi Petrochemical are handled by them.
Indeed, transporting oversized equipment is a major challenge. Currently, the elevation of ordinary road culverts is below 4.5 meters; therefore, waterways should be used whenever possible. If it is necessary to use roads, care should be taken during design to avoid overly large diameters. Especially for high-pressure and high-temperature equipment, one unit may need to be supplemented with two or even three units to meet the requirements. Nowadays, equipment under normal pressure is usually manufactured on-site. For high-pressure equipment that cannot be manufactured nearby, the required diameter is generally below 4.2 meters. As a last resort, on-site manufacturing becomes necessary; otherwise, situations like that at Yankuang Guotai occur, where bridge culverts on roads have to be removed and the area around the roads cleared

Road transportation generally requires preliminary investigation and the planning of a delivery route; any necessary dismantling is needed, and the shipping costs are quite high. Segmented transportation and on-site assembly are a good solution; many oversized equipment items are handled in this way.
It’s really a practical issue, being at school every day. I had no idea there were so many difficulties involved in building a factory… But from what’s mentioned above, it seems there are only three options: 1) water transport, 2) cooperation with large transportation companies, 3) transporting the components in stages with the help of transportation companies and then carrying out welding. However, thorough preparation is needed before transportation.

Large items are usually transported by water, but those that are too heavy have to be welded on-site! For example, the 2,200-ton reactor of Shenhua has its barrel sections manufactured in France, where they are then assembled and welded on site.

Seeing helicopters transporting large construction equipment in the air gave me an idea; it might be possible to apply this approach in the field we are discussing. It may cost a bit more, but it saves time and effort and is safe. Although operating it might be challenging, it’s possible to overcome that as well. If transported by land, it’s inevitable to cross bridges and tunnels; after all, it’s not possible to demolish those bridges and tunnels. For oversized equipment: if it is unitary and cannot be split, toll booths and bridges can only be removed along the route of transportation; If the cost is too high, it can be lifted across bridges and culverts using a crane ; It can be in a modular design; for those requiring complex processing, the components can be manufactured in segments at mechanical processing plants and then transported to the site for assembly and welding ; Finally, after purchasing the processed sheets, they are assembled and welded directly at the construction site!
