I have a few questions I’d like to ask. First, let me outline the conditions: I’ve chosen a pipe diameter of 200 MM, a flow rate of 70 M3/H, and a length of 30 KM. The friction loss along the pipe, as calculated by me, is approximately 1 MP. Here are my questions: 1. Why do I choose only 1 oil pump instead of a series-connected unit with several pumps? 2. Since the local temperature is very high, I plan to bury it underground; do I need to use a compensator? 3. During maintenance, what should be done with the oil in the pipelines? I estimate there are 3650 M3 of it. 4. If pressure relief is to be considered, do I need to set up another pressure-relief bounce station on the other side as well?
Those who have worked on long-distance pipelines could give some advice; I think it shouldn’t be a complicated issue

The pipeline is not long, so it cannot be considered a long-distance pipeline. Pump stations are installed only at the first station, with a single pump serving the entire system. The configuration of the pumps should be determined based on the operating conditions; if overcoming elevation differences is the main requirement, it is better to use a series arrangement, while a parallel arrangement is generally sufficient. If it is a continuously operating pipeline, a backup pump must be available. Pipelines should generally be laid underground, as this is safer and more cost-effective; above-ground pipelines cannot ensure safety. It is laid elastically underground, and no compensators are required. If conditional maintenance is possible, it is best to blow the oil in the pipeline into the accident tank. Properly install line shut-off valves to reduce oil leakage in the event of an accident.
It’s quite troublesome to carry out large-scale repairs on such pipes; if it’s only a small section that needs repair, one can look for solutions online. CNPC’s Pipeline Bureau has a technique for sealing pipes without interrupting flow. Additionally, the capacity calculation for your pipes is incorrect – they aren’t that large. 1. It’s not good to choose only 1 unit; 2. There is no need for compensator 3. When repairing, use a ball to clear it. 4. Considering pressure relief, install an overpressure release valve and a pressure reducing valve
1. Two pumps are required for the first stage, with one as a backup. 2. They should be installed underground for improved safety. 3. Since the transmission distance is short, no compensators are needed. 4. Pressure relief tanks and emergency tanks should be added at the terminal station

Thank you all for your explanations. However, I still have two questions: how is elastic laying achieved? Also, the inlet pressure at the terminal station I designed is 1 to 2 atmospheres – is it still necessary to design accident relief valves?
